This blog will document the experience of an advanced oral history methods seminar at Kean University in Union, New Jersey, in which students are working to design and develop a longitudinal oral history project to chronicle the story of Superstorm Sandy.
The Staring Out to Sea team will be conducting interviews in three communities in New Jersey’s Bayshore region: Union Beach, Keansburg, and Port Monmouth. Chosen because of their geographic proximity and their socioeconomic and racial diversity, these neighborhoods directly across the Sandy Hook Bay from Staten Island offer us the opportunity to explore both the natural impact of the storm and the emergency relief and recovery efforts that have followed.
